Jenny Sun Workshops 2015

You guys asked for it! So we're bringing it to you!! :D

We're BACK this year in KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA and SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA for the only TWO workshop we are hosting in the region this year!! Some wonderful news about both workshops:
1) We are having it a very private and exclusive venue that is just gorgeously beautiful, rustic, and BIG. You're going to LOVE learning in this space.
2) The syllabus has been revamped, and the two days will be even more packed with topics, teaching, and information than the last time we were in KL including:
- How to see and use different kinds of light, and pick/use light for the most flattering photos, and least editing
- How to pose your clients, to look and feel natural
- Post production, editing and workflow
- Branding, and marketing techniques to attract the clients you want and love working with
- Hearing how JSP started from day 1, to the international brand that it is today
- How to stand out better and be more unique in an already competitive industry
- How to spend less time in front of the computer, and more time living life
- And much more!

I have honestly, always always believed that the success of a photography business rides on how well a photographer does two things:
(A) produce their art, and
(B) run their business.

My philosophy has followed the strength of that marriage and this workshop is about those two very things. We are going to spend 2 very intense days working from the inside-out. I'll be going through all things JSP:
- my story, my successes as well as my mistakes, and how each has bettered my journey
- what inspires me and how I work through creative 'dry patches'
- the ins and outs of the JSP 'storytelling' style of photography and how it has changed my entire business
- my gear, and what pieces I use for what kind of photos
- how I use light
- how I pose and interact with couples (ie. how to keep them relaxed, natural, and make sure they walk away having FUN at the shoot).
- I'll also detail the JSP workflow, with photoshop and lightroom demonstrations, and strategies on how to spend less time in front of the computer, so you have more time to shoot AND live life :)

We'll also be working out who YOU are as a photographer and YOUR style, and helping you carry that through to your photos as well as your business and brand. Sounds scary? It is! But that is the fun of it - Learning to be a better photographer AND a better entrepreneur! :)

Our aim from the workshop is to help you walk away with the skills and confidence to shoot better photos that you love (that is covering use of posing, light, composition and post processing), AND running a business that works around YOU whether you want to go fulltime, or remain freelance while working a day job, as well as learning how to book clients that LOVE the photos that you shoot, pricing, workflow, time management, social media, etc) :) Time will also be spent learning about how I work with my clients from the moment I meet them, to the shoot, to the finished product.

There will also be some opportunities for 1 on 1 time with me during the two days, however, to the first 5 students that sign up with the earlybird registration, I will be also offering a complimentary session of a dedicated 45 minute 1 on 1 time for questions and feedback/critique :)

- your own laptop (if you plan to edit photos for exercises at the workshop)

The JSP Workshop in Sydney 2012!

S
o, two weeks ago, I had the AMAZING pleasure of meeting 20 bright and hungry-to-learn photographers and finally teach a workshop on my home turf of SYDNEY!!! :D

My head is spinning thinking about the 3 days we spent together - it was a mix of such incredible emotions from excitement, to deep rooted fear, joy, and thankfulness. Even pondering over it two weeks later, I can't quite formulate the entire experience into a coherent post that seems to do justice in telling the story of the few days we hung out as a group. So apologies if my words are seemingly lacking... I just want to give a HUGE thank you to the 20 attendees that trusted me enough to teach you. There is so MUCH incredible talent in the world of photography, it really means the world to myself that you would sit with me for 3 whole days out of your busy schedules to listen and learn when you could be doing that elsewhere. I guess part of my fear came from that... that I would not be good enough or that you would walk away feeling like you had not benefited. I hope I have done your trust some form of justice and that you have stepped out of the workshop feeling more confident to put your mark in this photography world around us :)

And to my WONDERFUL team, Vincy and David. You two are the best. Seriously. I call you two my blessings from God, for JSP. You are the backbone and breath of my business and without you, I wouldn't be half of where we are today. Thank you so much for your dedication, hard work, and being there for anything that needed to being done from setting things up, helping other attendees, getting my coffee (haha!! you know I love you for that!), and just smiling :)

Lastly, to the following people, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your incredible talent and contribution to the workshop:
(1) Amy Chan - for making our models look so beautiful and fabulous!
(2) Jess from Oscar and Ruby - for decorating our room, and styling our shoots so beautifully!
(3) To our out of this world amazing models on the day (Alisha, Wilson, Beth, Ben, Jess, and Adrian) - we looooooooooooooove you so much!!
(4) Wiki Lee from The Big Films - for documenting the entire workshop and sharing with our readers and followers what we got up to over the 3 days. The video is AMAZING!!!! For your information, Wiki filmed everything and then presented a 'same day edit' video for us to watch on day 3. Incredible! Wiki runs this school called Wikischoolpedia, so if you are a photographer wanting to learn some awesome stuff, please check out his school :) I'll be in Bali in August at his first Wikischoolpedia workshop so I hope to see some of you there :D

Have a look here for his really fabulous video of the JSP workshop!!

And for those wanting a few photo snippets of what we got up to, here are some photos taken by Vincy and David, along with a list of links you can visit to read about various workshop attendees and their thoughts about the workshop Thank you :-)
Then it was out shooting! :D We were so lucky to have wonderful weather for the day :D
Some mucking around in between! haha
The following were shot by our very own David, at JSP :)
And if you were wondering if I shot on the day... yes :) Here you go! :D
And lastly, here was the gang together for one last frame! :D
For further reading, check out the following links by participants about the workshop: Karissa, Nadean, Leanne, David Duong, and Jess

And lastly! If you are interested in JSP workshops for the future, there are some that may happen next year!! Please have a look at the below and if after reading the description/info of the group, you are still keen and interested to be part of a JSP workshop, just click 'join' and we'll approve your membership in any of the following groups:

(1) Sydney, Australia 2013 - http://www.facebook.com/groups/194051274029395/
(2) Perth, Australia 2013 - http://www.facebook.com/groups/140059226103525/
(3) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2013 - http://www.facebook.com/groups/247281395358018/

I REALLY hope to make the above happen for next year (if each group gets enough interest, my team and I will make it happen!!), so we are excited about the prospect of maybe meeting you at one of the workshops above!! :D

Jenny Sun Photography Workshop 2012: Sydney

This will be the third.

And I'm not saying that to toot my own horn. I promise I am not that kind of person. No no... Rather, I'm reminding myself of the fact that when I read back on this post in years to come, I'll remember that even though this will be my third workshop, and on my own HOME SOIL, it never shakes away the hand shaking nerves I seem to get before pressing the launch button. Not really because of a fear of lack of familiarity, but more so, the strange phobia I have that what if for some reason no one turns up!! haha... I usually have to smack myself a little and remind myself that the last two workshops we launched were full of wonderful, hungry, and passionate individuals, and it is YOU photographers out there who are burning to grow that spur me to keep teaching :)

That said, part of the concoction that makes up these jitters, is just the sheer excitement that there are a group of you who wrote into me, to finally make one of these things happen on my home turf!! :D I'm not sure why its taken so long to finally get one together in my own city, but the day is here and I'm really thrilled to be able to announce that our Sydney leg of the Jenny Sun Photography Workshop is launching today!

As mentioned a gazillion times already, It will be held in Sydney, Australia this time around over 14-16 February 2012.

The last one was held in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year in August, and previously in Singapore before that, both of which were full classes with alot of great feedback (THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to my two classes of students - you make me feel so honored to be teaching a bunch of wonderful individuals such as yourselves). If you want to read about what some of the participants of the last workshop said about it, have a look here:

So what is this workshop all about?

It is a 3-day intensive (and I mean INTENSIVE!! Ask ANY participant - there is ALOT of work and content to soak in) workshop where we will be covering aspects of shooting/posing/lighting, workflow/editing, and business/branding. I am not joking when I say this will be a very packed 3 days - the syllabus is very full, with ALOT of information to take in, and then apply and execute, so expect your brain to be hurting a little by the end of it all :) The participants of the last workshop in Singapore all mentioned that they likened the workshop to a bootcamp - that is how intense it is. Be prepared to be pushed, to do alot of hard work, and to be challenged.

Sooooo.... I'm hoping there will be a group of you cool people to hang out with in my home city of Sydney. I'm really looking forward to meeting 20 of you and make friends with at the workshop! :D The last workshop sold out in less than a week, so do get in early to get your place and also take advantage of the early bird rate we have!

Anyhow, here are the workshop details! :D

Date: 14-16 February 2012 (9AM - 530PM each day)
(for those worried they might miss valentines day dinner with their sweetheart, don't worry, we finish up at 530pm on the 14th :D )

Where: The Swissotel (This is RIGHT in the heart of the Sydney CBD)

Capacity: Limited to 20 people. First come first served basis.

Investment:
- $995AUD/ (early bird rate, until 17th December 2011) - If you need more time to get your leave approved, please email us immediately!!
- $1200AUD/ (normal rate, from 18th December 2011)

So, what is the deal with this workshop?
I have honestly, always always believed that the success of a photography business rides on how well a photographer does two things:
(1) produce their art, and
(2) run their business.
My philosophy has followed the strength of that marriage and this workshop is about those two very things. We are going to spend 3 very intense days working from the inside-out. Working out who YOU are as a photographer and YOUR style, and helping you carry that through to your photos as well as your business and brand. Sounds scary? It is! But that is the fun of it - Learning to be a better photographer AND a better entrepreneur! :)

Our aim from the workshop is to help you walk away with the skills and confidence to shoot better photos that you love (that is covering use of posing, light, composition and post processing), AND book clients that love the photos that you shoot! :) Win-win! :) Time will also be spent learning about how I work with my clients from the moment I meet them, to the shoot, to the finished product, as well as opportunity for 1 on 1 time with me for questions and feedback/critique :)

Who is this workshop for?
Anyone who loves photography and their craft, and is wanting to develop their style and business. This workshop will be a best fit for amateurs wanting to start a business/gain regular paid work, or photographers who are wanting to become full timers. The workshop will also suit photographers who are already running their business and want to improve and fine tune/update/change their brand or clientele, have a stronger market presence, and have a better grasp on their photography style. While we will be talking about how to see and use light, it is also best that you have a good grasp of manual exposure before coming into the workshop as we will not be teaching basics of shutterspeed, aperture, and ISO during the 3 days.

The Itinerary For the 3 days:
Day 1 - All about style (yours and Jenny's!). Discovering and developing your own style of photography and hearing about how Jenny molded hers. We will also be covering and teaching how to pose/engage with your clients, composition, how to see light, wedding day run through, how to get a maximum number of shots within a small space or short period of time, workflow/editing, elements of business and branding will start today and continue on day 3, and Q&A session.
Day 2 - Demonstration shoot in the morning (to see how Jenny shoots), followed by a shooting/Assignment day for all participants (this is a surprise! Be prepared to be challenged and pushed out of your comfort zones! :D )
Day 3 - The day will be split into two. One part of the day will be spent going over and critiquing photos from day two on aspects of posing, use of light, composition and style. The other part of the day will be spent learning valuable branding and marketing techniques that will help bring you in touch with the right clientèle, bring you business and strengthen your consultation/sales confidence :) Things on the agenda include: The art of communication (with your clients), the importance of planning and goals, marketing, the client experience, and managing that from the first email to the shoot and after, the numbers game (pricing, how to spend your money, money management, etc), your online presence, and the work/life balance. If you have prior and current marketing material, that is encouraged to be brought to the workshop as well for critique and feedback.
