Jenny Sun Photography Workshop 2011: Singapore
I am SO excited to announce this!!
I have had countless emails sent to my inbox over the last couple of years asking when or if I would ever conduct a workshop, and as much as I LOVE teaching, the last couple of years have just been crazy. Like C.R.A.Z.Y. So much so that there really hasn't been a slice of time long enough for me to actually sit down and write the syllabus and plan the workshop that I've really wanted to launch :)
Well, thanks to a couple of wonderful enthusiastic individuals, who asked and then invited me over, I am SOOOO thrilled to be able to say the very first official JSP workshop will finally be launching in Singapore this coming January 28th-30th, 2011.
That's right, it is a 3-day intensive (and I mean INTENSIVE!!) workshop where we will be covering aspects of shooting/posing/lighting, workflow/editing, and business/branding. I am not joking when I say this will be a very packed 3 days - the syllabus is very full, with ALOT of information to take in, and then apply and execute, so expect your brain to be hurting a little by the end of it all :)
I have to admit, I am a little scared making this announcement! I hope there are a bunch of you out there who wouldn't mind hanging with me in the city of Singapore for 3 days talking photography jargon, food, and my occasional ramble about music in my Australian accent :P It would be lovely to meet and make friends with a bunch of you out there in this cool city! :D
Anyhow, here are the workshop details! :D
Date: 28th - 30th January, 2011 (9AM - 5PM each day)
Where: Shangri-la, Singapore (right in the heart of the city! Totally and completely accessible via public transport, near by the shops and tonnes of food options, with lots of accommodation options around if you are coming from out of town like myself! :D )
Capacity: Limited to 20 people. First come first served basis.
Investment:
- $700USD (early bird rate, until 10th November 2010)
- $800USD (normal rate, from 11th November 2010)
So, what is the deal with this workshop?
I have honestly, always always believed that the success of a photography business rides on how well a photographer does two things: (1) produce their art, and (2) run their business. My philosophy has followed the strength of that marriage and this workshop is about those two very things. We are going to spend 3 very intense days working from the inside-out. Working out who you are as a photographer and your style, and helping you carry that through to your photos as well as your business and brand. Sounds scary? It is! But that is the fun of it - Learning to be a better photographer AND a better entrepreneur! :) Our aim from the workshop is to help you walk away with the skills and confidence to shoot better photos that you love (that is covering use of posing, light, composition and post processing), and book clients that love the photos that you shoot! :) Win-win! :) Time will also be spent learning about how I work with my clients from the moment I meet them, to the shoot, to the finished product, as well as opportunity for 1 on 1 time with me for questions and feedback/critique :)
Who is this workshop for?
Anyone who loves photography and their craft, and is wanting to develop their style and business.
The Itinerary For the 3 days:
Day 1 - All about style (yours and Jenny's!). Discovering and developing your own style of photography and hearing about how Jenny molded hers. The Class will ajourn outside for a portion of the day to watch how jenny shoots, engages with her subjects and poses them, and work with light to create her shots. Time will also be spent on this day working on editing and processing photos to give your photos that finished look, as well as plenty of opportunity for Q&A throughout.
Day 2 - Shooting/Assignment day for all participants with real life couples! (this is a surprise! Be prepared to be challenged and pushed out of your comfort zones! :D )
Day 3 - The day will be split into two. One part of the day will be spent going over and critiquing photos from day two on aspects of posing, use of light, composition and style. The other part of the day will be spent learning valuable branding and marketing techniques that will help bring you in touch with the right clientèle, bring you business and strengthen your consultation/sales confidence :)
Please note that this is a highly practical 3-day workshop so be prepared to do ALOT of work!! There will also be plenty of opportunities allocated on each day for Q&A, as well as 1 on 1 time with Jenny at one point of the workshop :)
I'm ready! How do I sign up??
UPDATE (5th November, 2010): This workshop has SOLD OUT!!!
If you would like to be put on the waiting list, or if you have any questions about the workshop, please drop us an email at info@jennysunphotography.com and we'll holla right back at you! :D Hope to see you in Singapore peeps! :D

Centennial Vineyards Bowral Wedding: Emma + Tristan
There are those in life you meet, and they make you smile. Then there are those in life you cross paths with, and they leave footprints on your heart and warm your soul. Emma and Tristan, are the latter. I like to peg it to her sweet sugar-coated smile and spirit, and his gentle natured heart, both combined make one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of getting to know and photograph. The real joy on the day though, was to watch just how much in love these two are...you could see it in the way he gazed upon her adoringly, you could see it in the infinite 'just-because' kisses that were exchanged, and you could see it in the sweet beloved way they embraced one another under the cool spring breeze that floated around the entire day.
Emma and Tristan, I honestly and sincerely think your love is the kind of love that generations whisper about and what best friend come lovers are made of, it is the kind of love that inspires your children and grandchildren to want, and it is the kind of love that people talk about for years, look at, and know without a sliver of doubt just how deep the roots of your love have planted within each of your hearts. I have this sweet image of you both, when you are old and grey, walking hand in hand, smiling at one another, and still in love. Truly. Madly. Deeply.
Thank you for sharing your day with me. I considered it an honor :)
Enjoy my favourites from the day! :D
{NOTE: Slideshow at the end for extra photos! Apologies for the quality - I have no idea why the rendering has made the colours less bright :( }
Perth Garden Wedding: Yivonne and Boon Wai
I could see the first rays of light shyly squeezing through the cracks in the blinds that morning, and as I rose from the bed to study the conditions the wedding would be basking in, I smiled. I smiled because a brilliant cobalt blue had exploded in the sky from end to end without a sliver of cloud in sight. I knew at that point, even with just 4 mere hours of sleep in my pocket, that it would be a fabulous day for two of the sweetest people to finally pledge their forevers to each other, and have the cords of life and love intertwine for the rest of their walk side by side.
And I wasn't wrong...the luster and radiance I had embraced that morning in the heavenly expanse, was only trumped by the sheer joy I witnessed in the faces of Yivonne and Boon Wai as their eyes met on that cream coloured, petal-laced carpeted isle. His smile was stretched from cheek to cheek as his mouth hung in amazement of how beautiful he thought his wife-to-be looked. And as her feet graced closer and closer to him, gracefully marching to the sea of applause from their family and friends around, her eyes just shone...they shone with an incomparable sweet delight that reflected the anticipation of what was about to unfold. That is, a union of two souls, two best friends, and two lovers hearts locked and sealed to each other for the rest of their days.
And as he ardently sang the words at the close of the night, "When I see your face, There's not a thing that I would change, Cause you're amazing, Just the way you are...." to his newly minted wife, she caught her breath in the surprise of the moment with one hand over her heart, and one hand over her mouth, as the tears slowly streamed down her smiling cheeks in unfeigned revelry and love. It was then I knew I had witnessed something truly special.
I honestly cannot express enough or adequately in words what a profound joy it is to be able to see two people who are completely and utterly in love promise their forevers to each other, and share the rapture and elation with everyone in a completely stripped-down unabashed fashion. Thank you Yivonne and Boon Wai for sharing such a special day with me.... God couldn't have put two more loving people together, and as a photographer, and then as a deep deep romantic at heart, I really couldn't have asked for more than what I got to see between you two that day.
Enjoy my favourites from your wedding day!
To everyone else! This post is a little different. I have my favourite frames from the whole day below, followed by a slideshow - the slideshow was edited and done ON THE DAY (hence there are no reception pictures). To see the reception photos, have a look at the selection I have put up just below here :)
Sorry for the overflow in images... I'm terrible at culling!! Enjoy the monster post though! ;)
And lastly, a ring shot to end the night :)
A love affair with light
As a photographer, I chase it...live it...I breathe it...
Breathtaking light.
So much so that I swear, there are moments where I'm caught in a flurry, and I literally forget to breathe. And then the crazed babble in excitement begins and that is usually where I need to pause for a split second and apologize to whoever is in front of my camera at the time for my deranged frenzy. "I promise I am normal, really....except maybe in this instance. But I swear it's for the photos. " My clients at that point, generally have a chuckle, shake their head a little and just continue on their merry ways as the shutter continues to snap around them. They must think I am crazy. I can't blame them :P
Seriously, crazy beautiful light does that to me. It renders me insane for a brief instance and I go into a flurry. It literally leaves me breathless. It is in these moments I honestly think it stops becoming a part of the photo... it IS the photo. It is in these moments I like calling it "God's light"... for the sheer reason that it is so incredibly magical, and it makes everything under its rays beautiful :)
This was one such moment :) These were all captured in the span of about 15 minutes at a recent shoot. I can't help but marvel at God's gift to us when it decides to show :)
xx
Hui Ling and Yew Cheong: Engagement
It is always a little daunting to photograph another photographer. It's always an honor, but really, it's daunting at the end of the day. Because you know they know what you are doing, watching your moves, analyzing your methods and wondering why you are doing what you are doing. Meet Hui Ling and Yew Cheong - BOTH photographers :) Double daunting!!
Or so I thought :)
Until we chucked, giggled, laughed, and laughed some more over things I cannot even remember. But those are the best kind of sessions... where you are bursting over, chortling in stitches on so many occasions that you cannot even pinpoint or recall what was funny to begin with. While we had strange stormy weather brewing over our heads over their quick pre-wedding session with me, I absolutely loved the fact that they were willing to try anything...like, lie in a paddock littered with cow dung and insects, or trek up a long steep hill to chase the only remnant of light we had that crazy stormy afternoon. And you know what? Perseverance, boldness, and patience is always rewarded.... :D
Thank you SO MUCH Hui Ling and Yew Cheong for that gorgeous crazy afternoon! The storm and insane amount of rain started literally as soon as we shut our car doors, but I had the best time photographing you both. I hope you love some of these frames as much as I do :)
Lastly, thank you Eddie Lee for making the video montage for this session (WAIT FOR IT readers!! I'll publish it as soon as I get my hands on the final cut!).... and of course, HUGE thank you to the superbly talented and sweet makeup/hair stylist, Shinny Ong for making Hui Ling look so fabulous. Girls and brides in Malaysia - she is amazing at what she does and I cannot recommend her highly enough!!
Anyhow, onto the photos! :D Don't forget, there is a bonus slideshow at the end of this post! Enjoy!
